Born in the 60’s, I remember when processed food was not the mainstay of the Standard American Diet. My mother often cooked dinner, and fast food was considered a treat. Imagine!
While my brother and I definitely made a box of mac and cheese occasionally, I remember eating fresh vegetables with most meals. We sat at the table and had a conversation. (Well, my Mom had a conversation. My brother and I were not always talking!) It was not until I went off to college and started fending for myself that pizza and fast food became normal.
Throughout my adult life I suffered from digestive distress. This came to a crisis in my thirties as I suffered daily from bloating, gas, and constipation. I went to doctors, but nothing seemed to help. Frustrated with not feeling well, I became a voracious reader about health, nutrition, and balance. I began to change my diet one step at a time. Slowly, I took a few processed foods out and replaced them with fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. As I continued this process, I felt better and better. My symptoms greatly reduced, but even better than that, my energy and stamina increased!
I took control of my health and wellness, and you can too! You do have time to cook. You do have time to exercise. You can feel better now, at any age, than you ever have before. Healthy can be delicious, fun, and addictive. Your life can be busy, balanced, and satisfying.
I believe that we are the result of what we take in from our environment and what we put into our bodies.
